Rockfish is one of those places to which I return again and again. I usually go to the Mockingbird Station location, but the Richardson location is about the same distance from me, but in the other direction.

My staple is the Mexican Shrimp Martini — it’s on the appetizer menu but for us shrimp lovers, it’s a meal, served with a plate of crunchy colorful tortilla chips great for dipping in the spicy-as-you-want-it Cuervo-laced tomato-y salsa.

The buffalo shrimp po boy and the Maryland crab cakes are a couple of my off-the-diet faves. Don’t stop at the regular menu, though. Look to the blackboard for daily chef specials. On a recent weekday, for instance, they whipped up a succulent dish of sautéed shrimp and scallops soaked in a light champagne butter sauce.

Plus, Rockfish last spring launched its Body and Sole Menu (I usually have to ask for it) where you’ll find shellfish, fish, sauces and sides you can mix and match. This menu includes caloric content of each item  (the aforementioned Mexican Shrimp Martini, sans the chips, tops this menu).
