Hillcrest teacher is a finalist for DISD Teacher of the Year

Hillcrest band teacher Brian Smith has been named a finalist for DISD’s Teacher of the Year award.

I know Smith, so I can’t say I’m surprised that he is up for the honor: About a year ago, in fact, I wrote about him and all the great work he’s doing at Hillcrest.

Also up for the honor are Gena DeRose Dubberley of Anne Frank Elementary School, Melissa Brown of Obadiah Knight Elementary School, and Stacey Aldrich-Giard of W. H. Gaston Middle School. The winner will be announced at an awards program sponsored by H-E-B Central Market on Tuesday, May 25, at 6 p.m., at the Women’s Museum at Fair Park.
