The reason I love Neuhaus is because it’s perhaps the only place I can score a pound of Gummi Bears and a good latte (or a glass of wine, depending on what kind of day it’s been) while knocking out some work on my laptop. This little spot is part café, part candy store, and part bar. And they always play great music, to boot. During a recent visit I heard a 1992 R&B ballad followed by indie rock. It’s also one of the few places in our neighborhood that offers live music regularly.

Fittingly, the menu is as eclectic as the ambiance. You can get everything from cheese fries to Thai noodles to Belgian waffles. My go-to is the caprese, a simple Buffalo mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich with kettle chips, which are made in-house. If you come before 3 in the afternoon, you can get breakfast, and if it’s not too hot, try to snag a seat on the shaded sidewalk out front.
