Family Place, a local nonprofit organization devoted to assisting family violence victims, is calling for entries for its 2010 Texas Trailblazer Award. It recognizes a local woman who has overcome adversity while making significant contributions to the community- “a woman who has blazed a trail for others to follow.”

The organization also is accepting nominations for the Man of Influence Award, which highlights someone who has made domestic violence not just a women’s issue but a community issue.

The Family Place Advocacy Award will go to an organization that has futhered the mission of stopping family violence through volunteering and financial support.

And finally, the Youth Service Award and Scholarship recognizes high school student leaders who have participated in Family Place’s START, Students Tackling Abusive Relationships Together. The program educates youth about having healthy relationships, helping prevent teen dating violence.

If you know who fits the bill for these awards, nominate them here.

The Texas Trailblazers awards luncheon is set for Sept. 29 at the Brook Hollow Country Club.
