Greeted by a glass case of rotating cakes, it’s hard to resist the sweet tooth calling at Neuhaus Café — which makes it a great place to spoil the kids. And when they catch a glimpse of the colorful candy dispensers in the back, you’re stuck. “That’s a huge attraction,” owner Mervyn Sacher says. “The parents do try to make them eat a bit of food.” Part candy store, part restaurant, Neuhaus offers gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads and pastas, and the kids menu has all the staples: PB&J, grilled cheese, baked macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders and pizza. Of course, you can’t leave without mixing and matching some sugary treats. We’re talking gummy bears, gummy worms, Sour Patch Kids, gumballs, Sprees and chocolate-covered everything. At $2.50 a quarter pound, you might blow your dinner budget on candy for the children — and maybe hoard a little for yourself.
