Whether you’re just getting out of church or just rolling out of bed, Bread Winners Café & Bakery is a great place to grab some Sunday brunch. But my advice: take a table on the patio because during peak hours, it gets pretty dang loud (not ideal for the those who really did just wake up). And despite the 100-degree heat last weekend, it felt surprisingly cool in the shade — plus, you don’t have to wait for table.

I’m on a budget, so I just ordered a glass of iced vanilla coffee, but I blindly recommend the Mimosa, Bloody Mary or Sangria ($8-$10 a pop) if you’re splurging. And the reason you go to Bread Winners: the complimentary bread, of course. The moist banana nut and blueberry with its sugary crust kind of makes you forget about the meal coming up.

I ordered the California Tortilla Rollup ($9.59): a large wrap stuffed with chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado, pepper jack and ranch. It chose the creamy-yet-light pasta salad as my side, but they also offer fries, fresh fruit or potato chips. There was plenty to take home for another meal, or you could split the entrée and save some money.

My dad, who is a little less adventurous when it comes to food, got the San Antonio Tacos: two giant tortillas with eggs, black beans, sour cream and lots of cheese. Boring. I would at least add some fresh pico de gallo or guacamole.

All in all, there’s not much to complain about. I’ll definitely be back — maybe for cocktails next time.
