The Longhorn Solar Corps, which includes W.T. White students, will participate (again) in the Hunt-Winston Solar Car Challenge this Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Last year, the students were the first in DISD to build a car using solar technology. At Sunday’s challenge, three students will take turns driving the car along an 866-mile route through Texas, to Oklahoma, to Kansas and then finishing eight days later in Boulder, Colo.

Dr. Louis Glover, W.T. White physics teacher and team coach, says it’s not so much about finishing the challenge first but managing the car’s solar power efficiently throughout the race.
