W.T. White High School senior Julie Negussie has been awarded a Gates Millennium Scholarship, which covers tuition, room, board and other college expenses for undergraduate studies and possible graduate work. Negussie is among 1,000 minority students selected for the scholarships. The Gates scholarships are awarded through the United Negro College Fund to “outstanding, low-income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific islander American and Hispanic American students.” The “Gates” funding the scholarships is Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.
