About a year ago, Dallas Police started using decoy vehicles outfitted with hidden cameras to catch thieves in the act. And you can’t argue with surveillance video.
Two of these vehicles are currently in use, one of which was funded by the Northaven Park Neighborhood Association. Police hope to see a decrease in car burglaries, which account for at least 30 percent of all crime in Dallas.
Since last year, vehicle burglaries have dropped by 600 offenses in the Northwest Patrol Division. Officials are looking to raise money through Safer Dallas to put more of these decoy vehicles on the streets
