Valentine’s Day falls on Monday, but local deals and events are coming up this week. For those planning to celebrate, here are a few ideas right here in our neighborhood.

Events:

Gattitown at Forest and Marsh will host a father-daughter dance at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. Admission is $30 per couple and includes a buffet and drink, two $8 game cards, a Valentine’s Day stuffed animal, a balloon bouquet and a professional portrait.

Ladies can treat themselves to a spa day at Facelogic at Lovers and Inwood for its Pre-proposal spa treatment – if you’re thinking he might pop the question this year. Now through Feb. 14, you receive a special deal on three services: a lip treatment, a hand treatment and a signature facial for $69 (a $119 value).

Dining:

Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen at Preston and Luther will offer an a la carte menu on Valentine’s Day. We featured this restaurant in our February issue for neighborhood comfort food spots.

Zoe’s Kitchen, which just opened in the old Zinksy’s space at Preston and Royal, has a special deal through Feb. 21 – you can receive a free slice of chocolate cake or a cookie with any entree you purchase.

Hurry if you want to order a Valentine’s Day dinner from TJ’s Seafood Market – you must have your orders in my Thursday, Feb. 10. The market, at Preston and Forest, is offering a “sweetheart dinner” for $39.99, including grilled Chilean sea bass with a mango pineapple salsa. Pick-up starts Feb. 12. Call 214.691.2369.

Cantina Laredo at Preston and Royal will offer a special menu for $35 per person, plus a tequila cocktail pairing for $15. Dinner has three courses, including a roasted red bell pepper soup and a chocolate tamale.

Gifts you can buy locally:

Jen Rosie Designs just added some new items to its Hot Mama Apron line – a full coverage apron with a signature towel. The online business is owned by Sparkman Club Estates neighbor Jennifer Carr, featured in our May 2010 issue.

If you’re not feeling the typical rose bouquets, North Haven Gardens has orchids, cyclamen, mini azaleas and live plant gift baskets for Valentine’s Day. And, they’ll dress the arrangement for free.

At The Pillow Bar near Lovers and Inwood, you can customize your own luxury pillow, including personalized embroidering. And it’s the real stuff – Hungarian goose down and a 100 percent sateen case. The company is owned by Preston Hollow resident Merrimac Dillon.
