Antonio Abundes of W.T. White High School has been awarded the $5,000 Eric Louis Brown Scholarship for his academic and athletic performances.

The student athlete ranks no. 1 in his class of 475 and has racked up several other honors, including: 2010-2011 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student, California Institute of Technology Young Engineers and Science Scholars Program and Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Football Team-1st Team, Class 5A.

Abundes has been accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which comes as no surprise to his teachers who have described him as very intelligent and analytical.

The Eric Louis Brown Scholarship was established in 2008 in honor of a Carter High School student athlete who died after a football practice.
