Film series begins this week at Temple Emanu-El

Temple Emanu-El hosts its summer film series Cinema Emanu-El on Tuesdays July 12-Aug. 2 in the Tobian Auditorium, featuring four thought-provoking movies followed by discussions with clergy. Here’s the rundown on this year’s program:

– “The Debt” (2007): In this Israeli espionage thriller, three retired Mossad agents who tracked down a Nazi war criminal in the 1960s realize that, decades later, their mission may not be finished.
– “Brothers” (2008): Two estranged Jewish brothers meet after years of silence. One is living a secular life while the other is deeply religious.
– “Just an Ordinary Jew” (2005): A respected German Jew journalist wrestles with his identity after being invited to speak to a group of young students about what it means to be Jewish in a modern society.
– “Wrong Side of the Bus” (2009): A Jewish psychiatry professor travels to South Africa, determined to resolve troubled feelings about his association with the country’s oppressive Apartheid regime.
