Having afternoon tea doesn’t have to mean lavish presentations with pinky fingers in the air. Several neighborhood tea rooms offer a great neighborhood vibe without making you feel too out of place if you’re not to up to speed on the high tea ritual.

Take, for instance, Eden, which we featured in our September issue. It’s a cute little house on Lovers Lane with an endearing, personal touch by the owner and chef Karen Kahn. It’s very low-key with no music, encouraging guests to mingle with one another.

Kahn is the only cook in the kitchen, and she makes everything scratch. Be sure to call at least 24 hours in advance for a high tea reservation since it takes time to prepare. It includes three courses each paired with a different tea. Plus, if the weather’s nice, the back patio opens up where guests are allowed to bring their dogs.

Other great tea rooms in our neighborhood include The Garden Tea Room inside the Forestwood Antique Mall. So, you can go antiquing and stop by for lunch in one trip. Also try Maudee’s, which is just down the road from Eden.
