The SMU Meadows Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2011-12 season this weekend, featuring new and classic works. The performance opens with Meadows faculty composer Simon Sargon’s “Tapestries.” Aaron Copland’s “Piano Concerto” features soloist Carol Leone, Meadows keyboard department chair.  The concert concludes with one of Beethoven’s greatest and most loved works, “Symphony No. 5.” There are two opportunities to catch the concert: 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Caruth Auditorium at SMU. Admission is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for students, faculty and staff.

Kramer Elementary PTA hosts its fall carnival 5-9 p.m. Friday at the school. There will be bounce houses, bungee jumps, games, food and prizes. The event follows the school’s ongoing theme, iLearn. iPlay. iGrow. The “iCarnival” will help raise funds for library materials and educational software.

NorthPark Center hosts a Stroller-a-thon sponsored by Dallas County’s four early childhood intervention programs – Dallas Center for Developmentally Disabled ECI, ECI of Metrocare Services, LaunchAbility ECI and the Warren Center ECI. Proceeds benefit the emergency funds that help provide food, clothing and other essentials for struggling families. Register at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the space between Macy’s and Nordstrom. Start rolling 8:30- 1 p.m. The event also includes on-site entertainment and educational materials.

Don’t forget about the community tailgate at 6 p.m. Friday during the W.T. White vs. Jesuit football game.
