St. Rita Catholic Church presented a $7,000 check to Bishop Michael Pfeifer of the Diocese of San Angelo. The money was raised through St. Rita’s garage sale fundraiser, and proceeds will benefit the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a mission that supports poor and needy families abroad.

Town North YMCA installed 17 solar panels to create an energy-efficient system, reducing consumption by 35 percent. The facility uses the energy to heat water for the locker rooms, indoor swimming pool and laundry.

Hillcrest and W.T. White high schools are among six Dallas ISD schools to receive the College Readiness award from the Texas ACT Council. The schools were recognized for increasing the number of students taking the ACT college entrance exam over the past five years and significantly increasing achievement.

Preston Hollow resident Jolie Carpenter has released a new coffee table book, “Spectacular Wineries of Texas,” highlighting the state’s best vineyards, including Inwood Estates in Dallas. The book is published by Signature Publishing and is available in bookstores and online.
