Join the Preston Royal Purls for a knitting social Aug. 31 from 1-3 p.m. to show off your needlework or learn how to knit. Beginners are provided with needles and yarn. The group meets at the Preston Royal Branch Library.

The second-annual ‘Bama Boot Scoot for Ashley’ kicks off at 8 p.m. at Gilley’s Dallas on Aug. 31, to honor a 2007 Ursuline Academy graduate killed in devastating tornado.

Ashley Harrison, a North Dallas native, died in a massive tornado in Tuscaloosa, Ala. just shy of graduating from The University of Alabama in 2011. Her family and The University of Alabama North Texas Alumni Chapter set up an annual scholarship for a North Texas high school senior who will enroll at the university.

Tickets can be ordered for $15 online. Tickets at door are $20.

David Chicken, an Emmy Award winning family entertainer, will be at Bookmarks in NorthPark Center at 2 p.m. Sept. 1. Chicken is a singer/songwriter that leads audiences in sing-alongs and dances.
