Fiddler, singer, and songwriter Carrie Rodriguez will perform at Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. Oct. 19. Beginning as a classical violinist at Oberlin Conservatory she later set to become a fiddler at the Berklee College of Music. Rodriguez has toured, recorded and co-wrote with artists like Chip Taylor, Lucinda Williams and Alejandro Escovedo, Rickie Lee Jones, Mary Gauthier, guitarist Bill Frisell and more. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 the day of.

The annual Komen Dallas Race for the Cure at NorthPark Center takes place at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 20 for the largest fundraising event for local breast cancer screening treatment and education in Dallas. The Dallas County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen will celebrate 30 years of supporting the community with 1k and 5k races and a Survivors March to honor breast cancer fighters. According to a press release about 5,530 Dallas County residents live with breast cancer, 1,339 are expected to be diagnosed this year and 30 percent of women in Dallas County don’t have insurance. Those who wish to register can do so online here or in person Saturday.
