Elizabeth Crowling of Hillcrest, and Anna Hansell of the Episcopal School of Dallas are finalists for the 2012 Davey O’ Brien High School Scholarship Award.
The $30,000 scholarship is given to “and exceptional senior student-athelete” in the North Texas area, and will be announced Jan. 22 at a luncheon in Fort Worth.
Crowling is nominated for multiple reasons: she’s top-ranked in her class, is a four-year varsity athlete in cross country, softball and swimming, she serves as team captain of the cross county and swim teams, is an AP scholar, All-State Academic swimmer, has been on the “A” honor roll every year, she’s a member of the National Honor Society and Academic Success Program and was the alto-saxophone section leader of the marching band in her junior year. Crowling also interned at the UT Southwestern Medical Center and continues to research pancreatic proteins for their Biomedical Research Program.
Did I mention she volunteers at a local animal shelter?
Hansell is nominated for equally impressive reasons: she’s a National Merit Semifinalist, AP Scholar, member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, ESD Student Council, Ambassadors Club and World Affairs Club. Hansell is a varsity athlete in field hockey, soccer, lacrosse and was named the All-SPC in field hockey. The young lady received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, National Latin Examination Award and took first place in the ESD Art Competition.
Did I mention she volunteers at the Genesis Women’s Shelter, Dallas Arboretum, Museum of Nature and Science, and tutors and mentors underprivileged middle school students?
There are a total of five finalists, and the remaining four will also receive $2,500 scholarships.
