Ten-year-old English Bulldog Shackleford

Ten-year-old English Bulldog Shackleford stands out among other dogs. His person, Jennifer Bryarly, says he sleeps about 20 hours a day, which isn’t the reason her family thinks he is more like a cat than a dog – it’s that he lives like he’s got nine lives. Once “Shack” walked into the deep end of a pool and “sank to the bottom like a cinderblock.” On another occasion he ate a 2-pound bag of Christmas candies, including the foil wrappers. Jennifer says his stomach has been opened up three times for swallowing two pacifiers and a corncob. The Bryarly family paid for the first surgery, but then wised up and got pet insurance that covered more than $10,000 in vet bills. Shack isn’t much trouble these days, and still likes to get cozy with his other person, Henry.
