In late February the City Plan Commission approved a lighted soccer field for Ursuline Academy’s soccer and lacrosse players in a 14-1 vote, and now just two weeks before the City Council is set to hear the case neighbors are in a tizzy.

The Dallas Morning News reports they have received several letters sent from families who live near Ursuline and oppose the lighted field due to bright lights and field traffic it can cause.

On April 9 supporters of the lighted field responded in a press release obtained by DMN:

“These are scare tactics that this group tried to use unsuccessfully with the City Planning Commission, and now they are using them with a larger group of neighbors to incite fear,”says Stephen Giles, a neighbor who also lives within the notification area. “The CPC approved the plans by a 14-1 margin, including the vote of the District 13 Commissioner,” Giles says.

District 13 councilwoman Ann Margolin has not taken a stance on the issue. I’m interested to see how this plays out with council contenders Leland Burk and Ursuline alumna Jennifer Staubach Gates.
