Update 10:22 a.m. : District 12 Councilwoman Sandy Greyson says she is working with an assistant city attorney to tackle potential noise issues before businesses receive certificates of occupancy.

The conversation came up in response to the ongoing argument concerning Katy Trail Ice House.

Greyson says though the popular hangout is in District 14 Councilwoman Angela Hunt’s district, she met with the assistant city attorney so he could “put language” in the development code related to outdoor patios and noise.

“If you know a business is going to come in and have an outside patio – I’d like to see the city have some change in their development code that addresses the issue before it becomes a problem and not after. Then it just becomes an issue of code enforcement,” she says.

Greyson says she’ll have more information when they reconvene in a few weeks.

Katy Trail Ice House isn’t backing down though. They are working to garner neighborhood support via this Facebook page.

Original post April 17: Councilwoman Greyson says she’ll work on quieting the Katy Ice House

That’s what the Dallas Observer reported this morning based off a city council meeting where a neighbor complained about Katy Trail Ice House.

Locals who live at the adjacent Park Towers Condos have had issues with the popular joint ever since its opening, citing the noise levels exceed what’s allowed by city code. The Park Towers homeowners association even took their complaints to the TABC in March for a noise abatement agreement, which was denied.

Apparently this morning a woman and resident of the condos told the council the noise is spoiling residents’ enjoyment of their terraces, “Nobody on the south side uses their terrace at this point, even in the penthouse,” the Observer reported.

District 12 Councilwoman Sandy Greyson was reported to say she’s already dealing with a similar issue in Far North Dallas, and promised she’ll get with District 14 Councilwoman Angela Hunt to “tackle” the issue.

I called Councilwoman Greyson this afternoon and am awaiting her call for an update.
