Lupe Almazan

Hillcrest High School senior Guadalupe Almazan was chosen out of 54,000 students nationwide that were narrowed down to a mere 1,000 who will be named Gates Millennium Scholars for 2013.

Almazan will receive a “good-through-graduation” scholarship to use at any college or university of her choice. She has been accepted to Boston College, University of California – Santa Barbara, University of Redlands, University of San Diego, University of Texas, Texas A&M University – Galveston and Baylor University.

“Lupe” is ranked in the top 1.5 percent of her graduating class, is an AP Scholar with Honor, a member of the National Honors Society, a member of the Hillcrest’s Biomedical Research Club where she partakes in pancreatic cancer research at UT-Southwestern Medical Center, and has been selected for the All-City Academic Athletic Team in Volleyball during her entire high school career.

Wherever she decides to go after she graduates this June, she’s certain she wants to study marine biology or environmental science.
