St. Mark’s senior Chandler Burke will be presented with an engraved bronze medallion to recognize his selection as a Distinguished Finalist for 2013 in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program at 10:30 a.m. April 26. Chandler is being honored for beginning a conservation campaign at the Connemara Conservancy in 2011 that involved erosion prevention, invasive species removal, building kestrel and bird boxes and removing trash from Rowlett Creek. The event takes place at St. Mark’s auditorium at 10600 Preston.

Play fetch for a good cause from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. April 27 at Ebby Halliday’s little white house on Northwest Highway and Preston Road. The free event is for people and their pets, and will feature hot dogs, a pet psychic, photos from Shagly Dog Photography, training tips for KKG Good Dog! Training, goodie bags and more. The event at 5999 West Northwest Highway will benefit Operation Kindness and DFW Lab Rescue.

Check out DeGolyer’s Discovery Carnival 3–7 p.m. April 27 for a community-wide event. The carnival will include a tree house slide, a fire truck, bounce house, face painters, balloon twisters, a cake walk, a dunk tank loaded with teachers and parents, carnival games, DJ Geoff and the return of the Bungee Bull. The DeGoyler Dad’s club will cook bratwurst, hotdogs, nachos and more.

Preston Hollow Elementary’s PTA will host its biggest event of the year to raise money for the school in its annual Family Fun Day. The 11 a.m.–5 p.m. event will feature a silent auction with auctioneer Zachariah C. Manning (license # 12633), a live auction, a raffle and a carnival.

Faith Presbyterian Hospice organized a 2–4 p.m. April 28 spring butterfly ceremony at the future home of the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Hundreds of monarch butterflies will be released as a part of an reunion for children, parents, grandparents and friends looking fore ways to express grief and remember their loved ones. The event at 12379 Merit Drive will also include music from MosiacSong, a women’s vocal ensemble and music therapists from Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
