12.03.29-ED-LAUNCH-E_optThe annual VisionWalk 5k fundraiser is this Saturday, May 11, at Bachman Lake. The family-friendly race will have balloon artists, face painting, and a bounce house for the kiddos. Proceeds from VisionWalk will help support the research of degenerative eye diseases.

The Martinelli family, who live in Lake Highlands, are chairing the event. Kim and Brent Martinelli’s 4-year-old son, Thomas, has Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that could leave him legally blind by the time he’s a teenager. Last spring Kim Martinelli told us, “We believe one of two things will happen: either Thomas will never go blind because we’re finding a cure, or he will benefit in his lifetime because of genetic research.”

Find out more about the 5k and register online here. Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Bachman Lake is located at 3500 Northwest Highway.
