Four-year F.P. Calliet Elementary School principal Richie Heffernan was recently named Dallas ISD 2013 “Principal of the Year.”

A committee of community partners, educators and parents selected Heffernan for his work to grow the Student Effectiveness Index at Calliet from the 50th percentile to the 99th, his hands-on approach to improve the campus climate, focus on Destination 2020 and community involvement.

“Our primary focus is always on instruction,” Heffernan says via news release. “For us, high quality instruction means engaging all students in relevant, rigorous activities that allow all students to master the curriculum. It means not letting a single student opt out of learning.”

The school has received TEA Exemplary, Recognized and a Gold level statuses for math, reading and science performance.
