The forthcoming book, “Dallas Noir,” releases Nov. 5, and events this week offer a sneak peek into the short story collection that has already received some buzz at the Texas Book Festival.
It also received a mention in Texas Monthly’s “5 Things You’ll be Talking about in November” and the Dallas Morning News just reviewed the book this past weekend, saying, “If you think Dallas is boring or white-bread — well, perhaps you haven’t gotten out much and seen the dark edges of Big D for yourself. And if you haven’t, maybe you don’t even want to.”
Published by Akashic Books, “Dallas Noir” features different pieces of crime mysteries set in neighborhoods around the city. In includes one story, “An Angel from Heaven,” set in the NorthPark area by Fran Hillyer. Other settings include East Dallas, Oak Cliff, Deep Ellum, Oak Lawn, South Dallas, Plano and even Cleburne.
The book is edited by local literary agent David Hale Smith, and all the authors are veteran writers, mostly from the Dallas area, including Preston Hollow resident Ben Fountain, a lawyer-turned-accomplished-writer whose recently published his most recent work of fiction, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime.”
So, if you want to delve into the creepier sides of Dallas, this is a good start.
