Mike Bone: Chris Arrant

Miki Bone: Chris Arrant

Miki Bone’s original play about Hasidic Jews and the secular world has received more than a few nods in the New York City theater scene.

We wrote about the Preston Hollow resident in July when her work made it into the Midtown International Theatre Festival this summer. Now, the Dallas Morning News reports that Bone brought home nine honors, including best production, direction, actor and actress in a full-length play, best script and playwright honors.

Bone, a former Ursuline Academy acting teacher, told us that she became fascinated with the scene of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where Hasidic Jews and hipsters co-mingled naturally. So, she wrote a play about it, centered around Ephraim, a young Satmar Jew who leaves his the Hasidic life for the secular world. But when a legal battle over bike pathways ensues, he become caught between the two worlds.

Save the date: Now, locals can see the award-winning play, too. “Division Avenue” runs Nov. 22-Dec. 15 at the Contemporary Theatre of Dallas with a local cast.
