Temple Shalom, located on Hillcrest and Alpha, is hosting an informational meeting Sunday from 1-5 p.m. for anyone looking to sign up for insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act.

“Enrollment interest is expected to climb this month due to the revamping Monday of the troubled application website,” Mary Lou Hoffman, a member of Dallas Area Interfaith, recently told the Dallas Morning News.

Yesterday, CNN reported that the website has indeed improved and will be able to better handle the high volume of Affordable Care Act applicants.

To get health insurance coverage by January, applicants must sign up by Dec. 23.

Dallas Area Interfaith, which includes Temple Shalom, Preston Hollow’s Temple Emanu-El, and dozens of other local churches and synagogues, has worked since October to help people sign up for the Affordable Care Act. The group’s efforts were even commended by President Obama, who praised volunteers at Temple Emanu-El last month.

Temple Emanu-El will host separate Q&A sessions about the Affordable Care Act on Sunday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 6-6:45 p.m.
