Venier Experiment - 24

The National Science Teachers Association — the largest organization of science teachers worldwide, based in Arlington, Va., — has recognized of our neighborhood private school teachers.

Bill Burton is the science teacher and science curriculum coordinator at The Lamplighter School, and the NSTA has named him the elementary-level recipient for the Vernier Technology Award “because of his exemplary science teaching skills.”

The award recognizes teaching innovations in data collection technology using a computer, a graphing calculator, or other handheld device in the science classroom.

Burton helped students explore the concept of friction, using this technology. First-grade students experienced this friction as they tried to pull themselves across several hundred tennis balls on the floor; meanwhile, real-time data was projected onto an interactive whiteboard.
