Mayor Mike Rawlings has some ambitious new goals for Dallas.

All CVS stores, including locations within Preston Hollow, will no longer sell tobacco products come Oct. 1. CVS chief executive Larry Merlo says the company concluded it could “no longer sell cigarettes in a setting where health care also is being delivered,” reports Dallas Morning News.

Earlier this week CNN reported that Benjamin Smith was arrested in New York after allegedly threatening to kill former President and neighbor George W. Bush, according to a federal court complaint.

A few months ago we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. This week, Preston Hollow resident and Mayor Mike Rawlings spoke at a luncheon commemorating a different 5oth anniversary: that of former Dallas Mayor Erik Jonsson’s Goals for Dallas program. Dallas Morning News reports that Rawlings told the crowd his own goals for the city, which are as follows:

  • develop a greater tax base in southern Dallas than in the city’s northern region.
  • Become the epicenter for the western hemisphere.
  • Be a destination for the greatest artists of the world.
  • Have the best public education system in any top 10 city in the country.
