Not everybody is a fan of the lovey-dovey hype as Valentine’s Day draws nigh. If you’re looking for a different way to spend your weekend, here are a few activities going on that aren’t all about chocolates and overpriced flowers:

Looking to build your own backyard chicken coop? Dan Probst of Bageniece Farms visits North Haven Gardens to answer your questions about how to get started. Purchase hens, organic feed, hay and more this Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or until supplies last.

Get your groove on while getting in shape at a drop-in Zumba class held at the Churchill Recreation Center, Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The one-time annual membership for the rec center is $15 and required for all class attendees. Zumba classes are an additional $5 each, and free if you are a first-timer. 

Race for a cause this Saturday morning at Bachman Lake. Run a chip-timed 5k or a one-mile fun run and feel good knowing that registration fees benefit Special Olympics Texas via the Bachman Therapeutic Recreation Center. Prizes and awards to follow. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., the one-mile run starts at 8:30 a.m., and the 5k starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $15-$25 per runner. Register in advance here.Â
