Away from the pulpit, some local Methodist ministers and volunteers are churning out classic rock tunes for worthy causes. This week marks a major milestone in their fundraising efforts.
Connections comprises about 17 musicians, including a horn section, and has played more than 50 shows around North Texas, raising money for Imagine No Malaria and United Methodist Committee on Relief. The band takes the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Northaven United Methodist Church with plans to surpass the $250,000 donation level.
The show is called “Triple Play” and will feature songs by Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, Bonnie Raitt, and Blood, Sweat and Tears, to name a few.
The group includes Northaven pastor Eric Folkerth, who you may know from his religion blog and his involvement in supporting emeritus pastor Bill McElvaney in his resolve to officiate same-sex marriage services despite the Methodist law against it.
The event is free and open to the public, but love offerings are accepted. Find more information here.
