Councilwoman Gates with other city officials at the Crimes Against Women conference

  • District 13 councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates (who represents Preston Hollow) spoke at Monday’s Crimes Against Women conference in Downtown Dallas. Gates, who heads the city’s domestic violence task force, says awareness efforts over the last year led to an increase in overall reporting. “There have been three domestic murders so far this year compared to six last year,” Gates says. Her task force organized a city-wide effort to “Paint The Town Purple” for domestic violence awareness earlier this week. You may have noticed that the Reunion Tower and Omni Hotel lights were purple in honor of the cause, too. (via Dallas Morning News)
  • Elm Fork Athletic Complex, the new 120-acre, 19-field soccer complex operated by FC Dallas is now open for tournaments, right near our neighborhood. The fields will “receive their first major action” later this month during the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup.  (via Dallas Morning News)
  • Former Dallas Stars great Mike Modano just sold some expensive real estate in Preston Hollow, and now he’s put his almost-10,000 square foot home near Strait Lane on the market for just under $3.5 million. Modano and his wife are expecting twins, a boy and a girl, this summer. (via GuideLive/Candy’s Dirt)
