Hopdoddy’s vegetarian-friendly Janis Joplin burger

Time is running out to get Hopdoddy Burger Bar’s Earth Day-inspired burger special — the Janis Joplin burger — which is only available through May 5. The $10 vegetarian burger consists of a hemp seed patty made with a mixture of grains, beans, and hemp seed and topped with cheddar cheese, sunflower sprouts, avocado, and basil pesto on a whole wheat bun with horseradish honey mustard, arugula, tomato, and onion.

Esquire contributor John Mariani, writing for the Huffington Post, gave props to local seafood restaurant Spoon. Mariani dubs Spoon, “the most exciting seafood restaurant to open since New York’s Marea five years ago and Le Bernardin back in the 1990s.

Liberty Burger is raising funds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) — and you can too — by sinking your teeth into Liberty Burger’s LTO Bacon Bleu Burger. One dollar of every burger sold goes straight to the NMSS.

Sprinkles Ice Cream in the Plaza at Preston Center is also serving up some flavorful philanthropy: through May 31, all proceeds from each scoop of Sprinkles’ “Mom & Michael’s Masterpiece Mix” will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The ice cream flavor, developed by Super Bowl champion and television personality Michael Strahan, includes vanilla ice cream laced with chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate chips, and ribbons of caramel. Each scoop is topped with freshly baked butter cake crumbles — inspired by Michael’s mother’s butter cake recipe.
