‘Get in the car’
At about 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, a 14-year-old girl was  walking in the 6100 block of Lavendale near the Preston Royal Shopping Center when a man in a gray Nissan Altima repeatedly ordered her to, “Get in the car.” The girl ran to a neighbor’s house. The man was 30-40 years old, round-faced, with a clean cut reddish brown beard, crooked yellow teeth and a Southern accent.

Missing money at Meso Maya
On May 29 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., $9,263 worth of cash was discovered missing from Meso Maya on Preston. Police reports indicate that there is no known suspect in the crime.

Dressing room thief
A woman entered the NorthPark Dillard’s dressing room with two dresses, two women’s shirts and a scarf valued at a total of $811.80 and was seen on security camera leaving the dressing room without any of the items and then exiting the store without attempting to pay for the items. Security guards followed the suspect into the parking lot and detained her. They were able to recover all of the stolen property, which had been concealed by the suspect in a Dillard’s bag she had been carrying. The suspect was arrested.

Burglary
An unknown suspect kicked in the rear door of a house in the 7700 block of Northaven on May 27, entered the garage and stole a lawnmower, weedeater, circular saws, electric drills and laser markers. Since the home was undergoing renovation, the door had no handle but was nailed shut from the inside. No damage was caused to the door, but the suspect took off through the alley and was not apprehended.

On the morning of May 29, the owner of a house in the 5100 block of Brookview was outside when she saw a suspect walking out the front door of her home. The homeowner asked if she “could help” the suspect, who replied no and walked away. After the suspect left the location, it was discovered that $500 cash was missing from a desk inside the house. The homeowner is in the process of moving into the house and left the front door unlocked while painters were on the scene.

Stolen vehicle
Between 5:00 and 9:30 p.m. on May 27, an unknown suspect broke into a white 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck in the NorthPark Center parking lot and drove away in the vehicle without the owner’s consent. An investigation is ongoing.

And the week’s weirdest crime…
One flower was stolen from a house on the 3200 block of Norcross Lane on May 31. According to police reports, the homeowner observed an unknown suspect on the west side of her house with the stolen flower visible “outside of a tote bag.” The homeowner was able to recover the flower by removing it from the tote bag, but the suspect managed to escape on foot through the alley.
