If you’re like me, the sight of a police officer (unless you’ve called on them yourself for help) often inspires anxiety — am I speeding? Are my tags current? Did a violent crime occur on my street? Is someone dead? Why are they here? Bad things!
I should not feel this way. At this point in my life, my inspection is current and I am a totally law-abiding citizen. It’s been almost three months since a cop last appeared at my door in the middle of the night with bad news, after all. And in my years working at the Advocate, I have learned that cops can offer a wealth of information. They can dispel or confirm rumors and fears, offer salient suggestions about keeping yourself and your property safe or advise you on handling crime- or possibly-crime-related encounters.
Tomorrow (Saturday, July 12) from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., members of the Dallas Police Department will be at neighborhood McDonald’s to answer questions and listen to concerns.
