Dallas CASA’s Parade of Playhouses

Dallas CASA’s 19th annual Parade of Playhouses, featuring 11 one-of-a-kind children’s playhouses available for raffle to benefit Dallas CASA, kicks off this Friday. Through Aug. 17, visitors to NorthPark Center can view the playhouses — designed and constructed by local architects, home designers, corporations and organizations — and purchase raffle tickets to win their very own playhouse. Raffle tickets cost $5 or five for $20; purchase on site or online (starting Friday.)

On Friday and Saturday Inwood Theatre presents midnight screenings of, “Bernie,” a black comedy based on the true story of East Texas assistant funeral home director Bernie Tiede. Tickets cost $10 each; purchase online or at the box office. Fun fact: Preston Hollow-dweller and Texas Monthly feature reporter Skip Hollandsworth helped out with the screenplay for the film, which happens to be based off Hollandsworth’s TM piece Midnight in the Garden of East Texas. Learn more behind-the-scenes nuggets about the film in this post about Hollandsworth from Advocate publisher Christina Hughes Babb.
