A North Texas Council of Governments grant will pay to expand the Northaven Trail west to the Walnut Hill/Denton Drive DART station.

The $2.5-million grant allows the county to complete that portion of the trail, which currently ends at Preston. The city is chipping in almost $1.5 million, for a total project cost of almost $4 million.

The trail expansion already had been funded to Midway, so the $4 million funds the four miles from Midway to Walnut Hill.

Check out the current Northaven Trail map below. The next big project will be crossing the trail with Central Expressway and connecting it to the White Rock Creek and Cottonwood Creek trails. City of Dallas Bikeway System coordinator Jared White says building a pedestrian bridge over the expressway has been proposed.
