The Gallery at Midtown has come a long way since its artists set up shop in the desolate Valley View Center just north of our neighborhood. The monthly art walks have made the mall a destination while developers work on plans to transform the entire area into Dallas Midtown.

Now, the gallery has received 11 nominations in the DFW Art Awards, including Gallery of the Year. The inaugural local awards show takes place Jan. 9 at the Latino Cultural Center. The community can vote in each category online through Dec. 19.

Doug Winters (pictured above) was nominated for Artist of the Year. He and his wife Kiki operate the Skypony studio inside the mall, and the two co-direct the Gallery at Midtown.
