The J menorah

The Jewish Community Center and Chabad of Dallas this week will light what is touted as the largest menorah in Texas.

The Hannukah celebration is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at the JCC and commemorates the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The event features live music and food, including latkes (fried  potato pancakes) and jelly doughnuts from Nosh Nook, which represent the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days.

The menorah is 32 feet tall, and is displayed at the entrance to the JCC through Dec. 24. On the following nights of Hannukah, the menorah will be lit electrically.
