Fish tacos at Coconut Fish Cafe

Fish tacos at Coconut Fish Cafe

As we reported last month, a new Hawaiian seafood restaurant is taking over the old Donna’s Pie House and Laguna Coffee & Tea spaces that recently closed. Coconut Fish Cafe opens today in the Pavilion on Lovers Lane, the shopping center adjacent to Inwood Village.

Founded in Kihei, Hawaii, in 2009, the restaurant is a popular destination on the south side of Maui and has been featured in Travel and Leisure magazine. This is the first Texas location, and only its third nationwide.

The menu focuses on Hawaiian fish, and many of the dishes use coconut milk-based coleslaw, sauces and dressings. The “famous fish tacos” are made with grilled Mahi-Mahi and Ono fish, served over white corn tortillas. The menu also includes the fillet of fish on a bun, served with the coleslaw and house-made tartar sauce, and the coconut shrimp appetizer, served with a homemade Thai chili pineapple dipping sauce.

Most items are under $12. Check out the full menu here.
