Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse is back from its holiday break Friday, featuring Wheatfield, a band of songwriters and instrumentalists who have been together since the ’70s. Their repertoire is varied; they’ve appeared on Austin City Limits alongside Willie Nelson, and written rock music for ballet companies. Fort Worth-based musician Ginny Mac opens the show.

The Preston Hollow Democrats host a panel 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Preston Royal Library, focusing on the freedom to assemble and protest, balanced with the police’s duty to protect, defend and serve. In light of recent events, experts discuss the issues as it relates locally. Panelists include Dr. Eric Coleman of the Criminal Justice Institute at University of North Texas; Frank A. Perez, an attorney and former police officer; and Adam Medrano, city councilman for District 2.
