Sam Baker performs at 8 p.m. Feb. 6 at Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse. The Austin-based singer-songwriter has been called the “best kept secret in Texas,” having appeared twice on NPR’s Fresh Air. IN 1986, Baker was one of the few survivors of a terrorist bomb attack at on a bus to Machu Picchu in Peru. He had to relearn to walk, speak and move.

The Junior League of Dallas hosts its annual Community Volunteer Fair 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 7 at NorthPark Center. There’s also a “kids in the kitchen” healthy cooking demonstration by Green House Market 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
