Velvet Elvis

Velvet Elvis

If you’re organized, you’ve had Valentine’s Day reservations for weeks at one of our neighborhood’s best romantic restaurants — Rise no. 1, Mercury, the soon-to-close Bijoux …

But if you’ve procrastinated, or you and your partner just aren’t into the schmaltzy holiday that requires us to dress up and spend lots of money, there are plenty of other ways to have a great date night in our neighborhood on short notice, and on any day of the year.

Just refer to our February 2014 cover story, which outlined “The perfect Preston Hollow date — morning, noon and night.”

Skipping to the night portion, our area has much to offer:

Velvet Elvis: This kitschy dive bar has been tucked away at Walnut Hill and Marsh for years, baffling the folks at the Dallas Observer, who muse that North Dallas just might be “cool.”

Stratos Greek Taverna: The food is great, but the belly dancing entertainment makes dining here an event. There are shows Thursday-Saturday nights. Plus, there’s a Valentine’s Day feast available the entire month.

Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse: For something a little more low-key, this intimate folk music venue features some great musicians you never knew you’d love. Shows happen every Friday night.

Midnight Madness: Snuggle up at the Inwood Theater for the midnight showing of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Treat yourselves to martinis at the lounge.

Art of Wine: This Preston-Forest wine bar hosts regular happy hours and wine glass painting. There’s a special Valentine’s Day class this weekend, but you can partake any time of year.
