One of our favorite neighborhood splurges, The Mercury, opens a new sushi lounge May 12. Chef Chris Ward is working with head sushi chef Roger Man, formerly of Nobu, to bring a menu of classic rolls, cold or seared sashimi, and sake and spirits.
“Sushi has always been a passion of mine and I’m trilled to partner with Chef Roger once again,” Ward said.
The two previously worked together at Ward’s Euro-Asian bistro, Citizen, on Oak Lawn. The Mercury already features a sashimi appetizer and other Asian-inspired dishes, but lounge will provide a more prominent setting for the cuisine in an intimate 40-seat section of the restaurant, formerly known as The Side Bar.
The sushi lounge will be open for dinner only 5-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
Here are a few other bits of restaurant news to keep on your radar this week:
- Blue Mesa Grill hosts its Gulf Seafood Festival with a menu developed by guest chef Sharon Hage (a James Beard Award winner known for her work at York Street in East Dallas). The dishes center around main ingredients such as Gulf crab, oysters, red fish and crawfish. The dinner buffet is 5-9 p.m. May 6 and June 10. Also – stop by for $2 blue margaritas all day on Cinco de Mayo.
- Take the kids to eat cupcakes for charity at Cupcake Camp Dallas 2015 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 9 at University Park United Methodist Church. Bakeries from all over Dallas-Fort Worth will showcase more than 3,000 cupcakes, Hotel Joule’s executive chef Greg Bussey judging. Children 17 and under get in for $10 and receive two cupcake tickets. Admission is free for their accompanying adults. The event was founded by 2008 Hockaday grad Lauren Okada, and all proceeds benefit the LEAP Foundation, which provides free surgical care to children living in impoverished communities around the world.
- Liberty Burger’s “give-back burger” for the month of May is The Pepper Patch veggie burger. A percentage of sales benefits the SoupMobile, which works to feed the homeless in Dallas.
