Last week our neighborhood’s popular Asian fusion restaurant Shinsei introduced “izakaya”-inspired service in its remodeled and secluded upstairs lounge.
The new dining service is “a foundation of Japanese after-work culture” say owners, Tracy Rathbun and Lynae Fearing, featuring chef Jeramie Robison’s small, shareable plates that encourage conversation. There’s also a wine, cocktail, sake and Japanese beer lists. The new lounge is separated by a heavy curtain that blocks out noise elsewhere in the restaurant.
The izakaya service is available 5-6:30 p.m. on week nights.
