The construction at the northwestern edge of our neighborhood is winding down as Walmart and Sam’s Club prepare to finally open next month.

The two major big-box stores announced plans in 2013 to take over the busy corner of Midway and LBJ Freeway, planting an 180,000-square-foot Walmart and a 136,000-square-foot Sam’s Club. The company demolished the existing strip center, except for the neighborhood bar Midway Point and the new In-N-Out Burger.

The new Walmart is scheduled to open July 15, followed by the Sam’s Club on July 23, according to an update the project manager sent to the Schreiber Neighborhood Crime Watch.
