You shop local, you eat local, but do you read local? It’s not difficult. Our neighborhood breeds authors. Here are five.
1. Robert M. Edsel – This St. Mark’s alum has published three non-fiction books. “Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History” is one of them. It was later adapted into a movie starring George Clooney, which you probably saw – the film grossed millions.
2. Donna Arp Weitzman – Preston Hollow resident Donna Arp Weitzman describes what it’s like to date when you’re no longer 20-something in her book, “Cinderella Has Cellulite: And Other Musings from a Last Wife.”
3. Deborah Coonts – Before she began writing mystery novels, Deborah Coonts attended Hockaday. She is best known for the humorous “Lucky O’Toole Las Vegas Adventures” series
4. Skip Hollandsworth – Skip Hollandsworth’s work for Texas Monthly has been anthologized in several books, including 2003 and 2006 editions of “The Best American Crime Writing.” He seems intrigued by depravity. Hollandsworth also authored “The Midnight Assassin: Panic, Scandal, and the Hunt for America’s First Serial Killer,” which is available on Amazon.
5. Rena Pederson – Perhaps you read our story about Pederson and her recently published book, “The Burma Spring: Aung San Suu Kyi and the New Struggle for the Soul of a Nation.” If not, click here. You’ll learn why Pederson, a veteran journalist, says Suu Kyi is “the most impressive person” she’s ever interviewed.
