Saint Michael's Farmers Market

Saint Michael’s Farmers Market

Eating is an essential part of life. Might as well do some good while you’re chowing down. Here are five places that turn diners into philanthropists.

  1. Liberty Burger – You’ve already dumped a bucket of ice on your head in support Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis research. What’s next? Perhaps a visit to Liberty Burger on Forest Lane. Order the Give Back Burger through Aug. 31 and the restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds to ALS Association of Texas.
  2. Corner Bakery Café – On Wednesday, Aug. 19, Corner Bakery Café on Preston Road will host a fundraiser for the Friends of Northaven Trail. Show this flyer to your cashier and the neighborhood nonprofit will get 15 percent of the amount paid.
  3. DISH – Preston Hollow – Think Restaurant Week ends Aug. 16? You’re halfway right. Some eateries, like DISH – Preston Hollow, are offering affordable prixe frixe dinners through Aug. 30. Of the proceeds, 20 percent will go to North Texas Food Bank. Click here for a complete list of participating dining spots.
  4. Temple Shalom – On Sept. 20, Temple Shalom hosts its fourth annual Food Truck Palooza in support of No Kid Hungry and Jewish Family Service. Spend the day sipping wine, enjoying live music and eating good grub. We’ll give you more details when the event draws closer.
  5. Saint Michael’s Farmers Market – If you haven’t visited Saint Michael’s Farmers Market yet, you better hurry – it closes for the year on Saturday, Aug. 29. Make sure to bring items to donate to one of these four charities: The Shoe Bank, Rainbow Days, Austin Street Shelter and Brother Bill’s Helping Hand. Collection boxes sit at the market’s entrance – you can’t miss them. Click here to see what the charities need.
