You have until September 9 to read “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel. Of course, you could crack open the dystopian novel any time, but that’s the date the author will be at SMU, discussing her work with hoards of students and community members. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is part of the university’s SMU Reads initiative.
SMU Reads seeks to unify the student body through literature. Each year, all undergrads are assigned the same novel. They read it over the summer and discuss it with their classmates in the fall. For the first time since its inception, SMU Reads is inviting the entire city of Dallas to participate.
In addition to Mandel’s lecture, the university will host several free events throughout the city, including post-apocalyptic survival classes and a pop-up Shakespeare performance this weekend. (Shakespeare plays a huge part in the book.) To learn more, click here.
